About Orrson Custom Farming LTD
Orrson Custom Farming LTD of Apple Creek, Ohio, has been in business for three generations. They follow strict safety protocols, provide ongoing training for crew members, and keep their insurance coverage up to date.
The custom farming enterprise began in 1946 when Clayton Orr, and a friend, Leonard Schnell, started doing custom harvesting for nearby farmers using a one-row, pull-type chopper. Clayton's son, Jim, was the second generation to do custom work along with working on the family farm. When his son, Jon, and wife, Melissa, joined the business in 1997, they expanded their coverage beyond the local area.
Today, Orrson Custom Farming employs a crew of 16 people, including family, and has customers spread from Georgia to Michigan. Jon's son, Justin, and daughter, Megan, joined the business as partners in 2018. Their harvest season starts in Georgia in late February or early March (moving their way toward the north during the course of the year) and doesn't end until Thanksgiving time when they finish fall harvesting back in Georgia.
The family continues to raise corn and soybeans on 700 acres of cropland in the Apple Creek area of Wayne County, Ohio.
